Patrons can submit items to be 3D printed. Prints will be added to a queue, first come first served, and patrons will be notified when the print is complete.
To add your request to the 3D print queue, please email your .stl or .obj file to techcenter@lanepl.org. Include any special print preferences like color and filament type.
3D Printing Guidelines
The Lane Libraries Community Technology Center provides 3D printing as a service. The materials used in the 3D printing process are provided at cost and the fees for printing are assessed according to each printed item's weight by gram (currently $.05 per gram, including rafts and supports, rounded to the nearest gram). Price is subject to change at any time. Filament colors and types are not guaranteed; please check with staff to see what is in stock.
The Lane Libraries Community Technology Center cannot guarantee model quality or stability, confidentiality of designs, or specific delivery times (3D printing can take anywhere from several minutes to several hours). Technology Center staff reserves the right to refuse to print any object for any reason. 3D printing can only be used for lawful purposes. Prints may not in any way endanger the safety or well-being of patrons or staff.
Acceptable 3D print file types are .stl and .obj. By submitting a 3D print file to Lane, the patron asserts his or her legal right to the content. The patron assumes all responsibility in terms of adherence to copyright law. Lane reserves the right to decline to print any 3D print file for any reason.
If a print fails, Technology Center staff will attempt a reprint. If it fails a second time, it will not be reprinted. Library staff may suggest ways to fix a file, but are not responsible for any modifications. Patrons will not be charged for failed prints. If an object is printed with rafts and/or supports, the patron is responsible for removing them. Completed prints that are not picked up within one month of completion may become property of the Tech Center.
The public will not be permitted to use the 3D printers for the following purposes:
- Materials prohibited by state, local, or federal law.
- Unsafe, harmful, dangerous models, or anything that poses a threat to other patrons. This includes weapons or life-like replicas.
- Parts of weapons, ammunition, and defensive as well as offensive weapons. If you aren't sure what constitutes a weapon, please consult a staff member.
- Obscene items or any materials that violate the Lane Code of Conduct or Lane Internet Policy.
