GETTING A LIBRARY CARD
  • Available to anyone working, living, or attending school in Ohio. Applications must be made in person (Including children's applications).
  • Requires photo I.D., proof of current address and a date of birth (i.e., driver's license, canceled mail with your name and current address, etc.).
  • Children under 18 must have parent's or legal guardian's signature on application.
  • Your library card is like a credit card. Do not lend it, and notify the library immediately if it is lost or stolen. Cards reported as lost or stolen and subsequently found or recovered can be used only after ownership has been verified through presentation of a driver's license or valid I.D.
  • Please notify the library if your address, phone number, name, or E-mail address changes.
  • If you forget your library card, adults must present a driver's license or I.D. Children will be asked to verbally verify information listed on the patron record.
  • A library card can be obtained for those living out of state for a $35 annual fee.
LOAN PERIODS
  • The loan period for all items except DVDs is 28 days. The loan period for DVDs is 14 days. Items may be checked out or returned at any Lane Public Library location, the Bookmobile, or returned to the book drop at the Hamilton-Richmond Road Kroger or Meijer, or the Princeton Road Wal-Mart.
  • Any item (except inter-library loans and M.O.R.E. items) may be renewed up to five times unless that item is on hold for another patron. Items may be renewed in person, by phone, online or by TeleCirc (513-894-8702). For instructions, please refer to the Lane Public Library's brochure for renewal options.
  • Items may not be checked out or renewed if you owe fines and/or fees over $5.00
  • There is a 5 item limit for DVDs.
  • There is a 2 item limit for video games.
OVERDUE MATERIALS AND FINES
  • Overdue fines are $0.10 per day, to a maximum of $5.00 per item. Patrons are responsible for all materials borrowed on their cards. Fines stop accumulating when an item is returned, and can be paid at that time or at a later date. The library's interest is in getting the item(s) back so that it is available for other users.
  • Notices are sent for overdue items. Notices are sent by E-mail, phone, or regular mail. Notices are courtesies only. Failure to receive such a notice does not exempt the cardholder from any fines due.
  • Items that have more than one piece will not be checked in until all of the pieces are returned. Overdue fines will be charged if all the pieces are not returned by the due date.
  • If you lose or damage an item, the replacement cost will be charged to your record. The library cannot accept a replacement copy of an item as payment. The replacement cost covers only a part of Lane's cost to process or replace these items. No refunds will be given.
  • If items are not returned or fines are not paid, your account may be referred to the Unique Management recovery agency. Should your account be reported, an additional, non-refundable fee of $15.00 will be added to your account.
  • There is a $15 fee for checks returned for insufficient funds.
FAX SERVICE

Public Fax Service is now being offered at all Lane Libraries. Please see any Information Services Librarian to use the service.

  • The cost to send/receive a local fax is $1.00 for the first page, $0.25 for each additional page.
  • The cost to send/receive a long distance fax is $2.00 for the first page, $0.50 for each additional page.
CONFIDENTIALITY POLICY
  • The Lane Public Library specifically recognizes that its circulation records and other records identifying the name of library users with specific materials are confidential in nature. To ensure this protection, we do not allow access to your library record without proper identification and/or your library card. This is to protect you from unauthorized use of your library card and/or access to personal information on file with us.
INFORMATION RACK/BULLETIN BOARD POLICY

The Lane Public Library strives to provide information of public interest to the residents of the communities it serves.  In keeping with this concept, community groups are encouraged to present fliers, brochures, and informational materials to the libraries for placement on information racks and bulletin boards.  The following will not be accepted:

  • Campaign literature for a political candidate or ballot issue
  • Materials promoting commercial products or services or personal notices of any kind
  • Posters larger than 18 x 24 inches

Items for distribution and/or posting should be taken to the Public Relations office or left at the Information Desk or drive-thru window at any location.  The library does not guarantee the availability of space and may have to restrict the number of copies approved for display.  Information rack and display space will be used for Lane Public Library information on a priority basis.  Public use will be subject to availability of space.  Acceptance of materials for display does not indicate Lane Public Library endorsement of a group or organization, its policies, or beliefs.  All materials presented will be subject to review by the Branch Head at each location.

The library reserves the right to refuse acceptance of display and information materials at any time.

For more information, contact the Public Relations office at 894-6557, ext. 103.

INTERNET USE POLICY
INTRODUCTION
The library endeavors to develop collections, resources, and services to meet the needs of the diverse population in our service area of Butler County. It is within this context that Lane Public Library offers access to the Internet via the Ohio Public Information Network (OPLIN) and other avenues.

DISCLAIMER:
It is understood by users of the Internet and OPLIN that most of the information available is not generated by Lane Public Library or OPLIN. Through OPLIN and other avenues, the library provides access to reference databases of general and special periodical materials, reader's advisory services, homework centers to assist students with research assignments, and legislative, historical, and archival materials and information.

Information available through the Internet and OPLIN is not warranted by Lane Public Library or by OPLIN to be accurate, authoritative, factual, or complete. The availability of networked information via Lane Public Library does not constitute any endorsement or ratification of that information. Lane Public Library and OPLIN are not responsible for the content of networked information available. The use of the Internet and OPLIN to engage in any activity that constitutes violation of local, state, and/or federal laws is strictly prohibited.

All users of the service agree to hold Lane Public Library and OPLIN harmless from any and all claims, losses, damages, obligations, or liabilities directly or indirectly relating to the use of the Internet and OPLIN, caused thereby or arising therefrom. In no event shall Lane Public Library or OPLIN have any liability for lost profits or for indirect, special, punitive, or consequential damages or any liability to any third party, even if Lane Public Library or OPLIN is advised of the possibility of such damages.

GUIDELINES FOR USE:
The Internet is a global entity with a highly diverse user population, and library patrons use it at their own risk. As with other library materials, it is the patron, or the parent or legal guardian of minor children, who assumes responsibility for supervising access to Internet and OPLIN resources in the Library. Parents are encouraged to work with children to develop acceptable rules for Internet use.

The Internet will be used for educational, information, and recreational purposes only, not for unauthorized, illegal, or unethical purposes. Users may not send, receive, or display text or graphics that may reasonably be construed as obscene. Users seen accessing such sites will be asked to stop. Failure to do so could result in a loss of Internet and/or library privileges. Lane Public Library uses filtering software on some computers to limit access to pornographic and sexually explicit web sites.

Library computers are shared resources, and are not for excessive use by any single user nor to support personal, recreational, for-profit, commercial, or other activities.

Users may be asked by staff to limit their usage of any library computer to 30 minutes.

Users should limit printing to the number of pages posted near the printers.

Because of the risk of computer viruses, users may not use their own software programs on any library computer connected to the Internet. Lane Public Library is not responsible for any loss of data, damage to a patron's computer, or liability that may occur from patron use of the library's computers.

Users should respect the privacy of others by not misrepresenting themselves as another user; by not attempting to modify or gain access to files, passwords, or data belonging to others; and by not seeking unauthorized access to any computer system, or damaging or altering software components of any network or database.

Access to Internet and OPLIN is normally available during library hours, subject to periodic maintenance. Users may not always be able to access Internet sites for various reasons that could include: restricted use of certain databases, too many users on the host computer, maintenance or addressing problems on the host computer, or temporary disruption of the library's Internet or OPLIN connection due to technical difficulties or routine maintenance.

Failure to comply with this policy may result in the loss of Internet and /or library privileges.

MEETING ROOM POLICY

The Lane Public Library strives to provide the residents of the library district with access to a broad scope and variety of materials, resources, information, services and programs. In keeping with this concept, the citizens of the community are encouraged to use the various library meeting rooms for group meetings and programs.

  1. Activities under the direction of the library shall have first priority for the use of the meeting room.
  2. There is no charge for using a library meeting room
  3. Community groups may schedule meetings provided that:
    1. All meetings must be open to the public.
    2. Community groups whose purposes are non-profit, civic, cultural or educational are encouraged to use the various library meeting rooms for group meetings when the rooms are not being used for their primary purpose-library related activities. Meeting rooms may not be used for social activities, private parties, commercial endeavors or gatherings which advertise a product or service.
  4. Because of the frequent use of the meeting rooms, the library is unable to guarantee their availability for regularly schedule meetings. All scheduling will be done on a first-come, first served basis. Reservations for the meeting room will be accepted up to 3 months in advance. Requests to reserve the meeting room may be made by phone, but an application form must be completed and returned to the library before the scheduled meeting.
  5. The meeting rooms are available daily beginning one-half hour after the library opens. Groups using the meeting room must leave when the library closes.
  6. A request for use of space by minors must be made by an adult who will agree to be present and responsible for the meeting.
  7. The organization using the room is responsible for any damage or breakage to the premises or its contents by members or guests of the group. The room is to be left in the condition in which it was found, and all trash disposed of in the container provided.
  8. The library will not be responsible for loss or damage to any property belonging to the organization or its members and guests.
  9. No smoking permitted.
  10. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited. Cooking is not permitted in the meeting rooms.
  11. The organization is responsible for providing supervision of children accompanying adults attending the organization's meeting.
  12. The fact that a group is permitted to meet at the library does not in any way constitute an endorsement of the group's policies or beliefs by the library.
  13. The library reserves the right to revoke permission to use the facilities at any time.
  14. Meeting room capacities as listed on the application form must not be exceeded.
  15. A/V equipment is available for use.
