POSITION
DESCRIPTION
As
defined by its Board of Trustees, the mission of the Lane Public Library
(LPL) and its staff members is "to provide and promote library
resources to meet the educational, recreational, cultural, civic, and
informational needs of the library's service area."
TITLE:
Shelver
GRADE: Non-Graded
REPORTS TO: Support Services Supervisor FLSA:
Non-Exempt
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Offers
consistently excellent customer service
- Shelves
print and non-print library materials, such as hardback and paperback
books, large print books, special book collections, teacher collections,
genre categories, newspapers, A/V materials, CDs, DVDs, microfilm, microfiche,
and any other library materials
- Arranges
and restocks materials neatly and in proper order for easy accessibility
- Refers
reference questions to appropriate staff members
- Performs
opening and closing procedures as assigned
- Assists
staff, as assigned by the Support Services Supervisor
- Serves
on various teams and committees
- Keeps
up with e-mail and information posted on the staff site
REQUIRED
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Organizes,
analyzes, and prioritizes work skillfully and efficiently
- Demonstrates
ability to pass filing test
- Communicates
effectively
- Maintains
confidentiality
- Works
both independently and with appropriate training and supervision
- Maintains
professionalism and adheres to library policies and staff code
REQUIRED
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- Must be
16 years of age or have a valid work permit
- Must have
a valid work permit if under age 18
OTHER
REQUIREMENTS:
- Works
assigned schedule, which includes evenings and weekends
- Assists
other agencies/departments, as needed
Part-time,
15 hours per week, $7.85 per hour. Must pass a filing test prior to
consideration for
employment. Excellent benefits including paid vacation and paid sick leave
after one year of service.
