E-mail Notices for Holds and Overdue Items

Lane Public Library can send you an e-mail notice when you have items on hold or overdue.
To request this service, please complete the form below or call the library's Circulation Department at 894-7156.
If you are concerned about sending this information unencrypted over the Internet, we encourage you to call us by phone instead. Troubleshooting Tips for Email (same page, below).

Name
E-mail Address
Phone number
Card Barcode Number

Benefits:

  • Overdues sent via email will be delivered days quicker than through US Mail.
  • "Coming due" reminders (notices sent 3 day before an item is due) are available only via email
  • Hold notices will arrive days sooner.

Please note:

  • We consider library records to be private and confidential. We do not recommend that shared email addresses be used to communicate library information.
  • The US Mail offers a reasonable (and Federally-enforced) guarantee of confidentiality of mail sent to and from you. Although we consider our email traffic to be reasonably secure, we cannot offer any guarantees that this information is secure once it travels through the Internet.
  • We will delete email addresses from patron records if email is undeliverable.
TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEMS RECEIVING LANE LIBRARIES EMAIL NOTICES (updated 11/26/2007)
We send 500-1500 email notifications for holds and overdue materials each day.

Based on the large quantity of mail we send, some Internet Service Providers and email providers are flagging our email as "spam" before it hits your inbox. We have asked several major providers to allow our mail through, but the follow-through on their end is inconsistent. Below are recommended steps in priority order you can take if you are experiencing difficulty receiving your notifications.

VERIFY THAT WE HAVE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS ENTERED CORRECTLY
If you are at any of our circulation desks, staff can verify that your email address is entered correctly. You can also contact us via the comment form here: http://www.lanepl.org/comments.htm

EDIT YOUR EMAIL WHITE LIST/ALLOW LIST
It could be that our emails are making it through your ISP/email provider but still ending up in your SPAM folder. Set your email account's "white list" or "allow list" to permit all mail from

@lanepl.org
@oplin.org

If your allow list has to allow specific addresses, use

no_reply@lanepl.org (overdue and hold notices)
lane_notice@oplin.org (items coming due, or "pre-overdue" notices)

We have no plans to change these specific addresses, but they are subject to change in the future.

USE A DIFFERENT EMAIL ACCOUNT
If you are having problems with a specific account, you can try using or setting up an alternate account such as http://gmail.com, http://mail.yahoo.com, http://hotmail.com, and many others.

CHECK YOUR ACCOUNT ONLINE
You can monitor your account by logging into your account . This link is also on the right side of web site, under "Renew items & manage your Lane account". You may also go to cat.lanepl.org and click on the MY ACCOUNT tab.

TRY LIBRARY ELF
Library Elf is a free, independent service that we've configured to work with our system. We do not provide technical support for it, but it works well in our experience. Go to http://www.libraryelf.com/ and follow the account setup instructions.

Please note that there is a security concern in that you have to provide your library account number and PIN to Library Elf in order for the system to work. We have not heard of any problems involving their service and/or security, but you should be aware that they are independent of The Lane Libraries.

We encourage you to use email for notifications, as it is quicker and also saves the library the cost of postage. If you decide you do not want email service, we can setup your account for telephone notification (TeleCirc) instead. An automated attendant will call about holds and overdues. For privacy reasons, we do not provide title information. You can call TeleCirc at 894-8702 and login with your library account number and PIN to renew, check titles information and perform other tasks. More information about TeleCirc is available here: http://www.lanepl.org/telecirc.htm
